Welcome to the Grade 1 paddling online course, this course will give you an understanding of the correct technique for the kayak stroke and some generic training principles for beginning your kayak training journey.

To start we break down the kayak technique. The 4 phases.

Even a seasoned kayaker or paddler may benefit from this information. This sets up the language kayak coaches use to communicate technique advice to athletes and understanding. You will be surprised on how much value this provides to increasing your understanding of paddling technique will help you move the boat faster and more efficiently.

After gaining the understanding of technique, we then we dive into drills you can do on the land to apply to your on water paddling for the correct technique.

After Technique we look at some basic training principles both strength and on water training. ie What exercises and how much paddling you need to do to achieve a basic level of fitness to push on to your next paddling challenge. Be it K1 racing , river racing or open ocean paddling.

Finally accountability – Connect on strava – provide evidence of the paddling practise being done and you will get a Grade 1 Certificate.

After completing and engaging with the course you will have the confidence that you have effective technique and fitness to progress onto your next level of paddling.
