Guide to training over the holidays

Here is a quick guide to training over the holidays. Use all or some of the ideas depending on your goals

Adventure:

Adventuring into the outdoors (within your limits) is a great way to build endurance. It’s an excellent method to stay active while doing something fresh. Say you’re a k1 paddler and still want to maintain some fitness over the holidays. Jump on a surf ski and explore your holiday beaches. Jumping into a different form of paddle craft over the holidays is refreshing. It helps you feel ready when your goal-specific training resumes after the break. if you have no paddle craft it maybe that you do a few laps of the local bay swimming laps.

Try a different strength work out

Chances are you don’t have access to a gym. Taking this as an opportunity to learn body weight or calisthenic based movements would work here. Things like strength bands, rings, and TRX equipment are easily transportable. They can provide effective workouts whether it’s a holiday or not.

Experiment

Holiday training is a great Time to try that different paddle or boat or equipment or training session. It could provide the motivation to get the workout done. You also have found a new tool to use to get better.

Don’t be afraid to recover and chill

You may need recovery. If you have just come off a big block or finished a big event in December, it’s important to rest. Mobility work or some easy adventure walks will be all that’s required. Let the body adapt through recovery and reap the benefits come for your next training block after the holidays.
